BitDefender 8

Bitdefender 8 is an excellent free anti virus package and works with older operating systems as well as XP. It doesn't have the same level of protection as BitDefender v10, but it does have the advantage of being free.

AVG Free

AVG is a very popular free anti virus tool working with older operating sysyems as well as XP. Not as good as a pay-for package but considerably cheaper.

Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Classic

Avira AntiVir works with XP and Windows 2K. There is a different version for Win 98 and ME so make sure you download the right one. I particularly like the nice umbrella logo.

Free Avast! 4 Home Edition

Free Avast! 4 Home Edition requires yearly registration to obtain licence keys. You will know all about it when it finds a virus though, it scares the pants off me!

ClamWin Antivirus

A useful little antivirus programme with a small memory footprint. Doesn't include an automatic scanner so you have to run manual scans.
