An Internet browser is a programme that allows you to look at web pages. Most people are familiar with Internet Explorer (the blue 'e') or, if your Internet Service Provider is AOL, AOL9. There are however, many more browsers and while each one does basically the same job, they each have their own unique feel. All Internet browsers listed here are free to download and use.

Mozilla Firefox



If you don't try anything else, try this one. It is Torpoint Computers' browser of choice. Once you have downloaded and installed it you can customise the browser with add-ons called 'Extensions'. These are handy little programmes, which have been written to enhance your surfing experience. We particularly recommend StumbleUpon.


Netscape Browser 8

Netscape was one of the very first Internet browsers. This latest version gives a good level of security with integrated spyware scanning and a trusted site scheme where sites are verified for safety by a number of security partners.

Opera 9

A browser that loads quickly and offers fun web based progrmmes called Opera Widgets. It also has a nice page zoom feature which enables you to magnify the whole web page.

Internet Explorer 7

The latest browser offering from Microsoft. An improvement on IE6, heavily influenced by Mozilla's Firefox browser, but unfortunately not compatible with earlier operating systems.
